Preliminaries for Autonomy: An Art Forum
To say that you are an autonomous entity, can only be implied when there is a system or force in place that you're operating outside of, or in many ways alongside (one foot in, one foot out sort of thing). The artist takes up a particular role in this regard, both as practice and process. Using tools like bandcamp, gov' and private grants, various media/design tools, and community events like this one are all results of autonomy, but within need to participate alongside the systemic in order to reach self-reliance, to be self-governed.
Participating visual artists and musicians take up the poetically political in this art forum, to create a space for critical dialogue with the community through art production. While the event operates on a pay, trade, barter basis, its monetary goal is to fundraise for artist Mallory Amirault's tuition expenses to continue her studies at Emily Carr University.

What to expect, from us and you:
- There will be some vegan snacks provided, but feel free to bring some more. We encourage it.
- This is a BYOB event, under-agers will be tagged, so bring your ID.
- A free raffle for original artwork will occur. Badass, right ?
- There will definitely be a jam afterwards - if you feel the urge to bring an instrument, splurge your urge.
- This event is organized with the help of co-hort Shanni Singh from Centre for Small Farms, a local organization that promotes food-systems education, self-reliance, fair-trade and above all, a localized economy. They recognize their place on unceded Mi'Kmaq land, and desire to build relationships with the community. Shaani is a local doula, musician and overall badass. Hit her up for some incredible stories.
Note: The posters were created as one being provocative, the other more inviting -- much like the participating artists and their artworks, much like how this event will be.
We're looking forward to sharing and dialoging with you.
